sculpture 1954-1964, October 1964.
In reaction to his purist or Apollonian approach, Takis composed a series of fetishes made from blacksmith tools welded to ready-mades, supporting long wiry necks and corolla-like handmade heads. This group includes the Flower series (1957). Takis sees flowers as signals to bees as to the presence of pollen, in the way road signs indicate crossings and sharp turns. In spirit, Takis is closer to Giacometti than to any other sculptor. Both strive to achieve - one with Etruscan thrust, the other with a Cycladic one - a symbolic condensation of means and ends, of process and form.
