Footnotes
Emerging victoriously from a tangled group of organic forms and abstract formulations strongly reminiscent of fluttering flags and banners, Moustakas’ slender and beautiful female figure represents a heroic affirmation of life and alludes to the timeless and lofty visions of Hellenism. Even the horse’s head, breaking free from the sculptural mass, takes on a symbolic import “transformed into the mythical Pegasus and conveying messages to the Olympian gods.”1 According to Professor C. Christou who prepared the artist’s monograph, Moustakas is a genuine artist who draws from reality, imagination and abstraction to produce powerful forms vibrating with an inner force, while Dr. Y. Kolokotronis argues that this gifted sculptor transforms an idea into a timeless symbol, investing the classical with energy, mobility and a contemporary feel.2
