A graceful, lacework-like piece of fine handicraft, great sensitivity and symbolist overtones, La main is an organic form translated into near-geometric shapes of elemental simplicity captured in metal. A great virtuoso of steel, 'un Hephaistos des temps modernes,'1 Philolaos challenges his material to a duel and forces it to submit to his artistic vision.2 "There is nothing dark or mysterious in Philolaos' sculpture. His art is born from a man who enjoys light and makes his metals gleam like sunrays reflected on sea water."3 A restless and inquisitive mind, Philolaos enjoys a sterling reputation in both France and Greece as one of the first artists of his generation to combine constructivist principles with freely elaborated forms of minimalist rigour.
