Miniature
Term originally referred to the art of illustration of manuscripts. Later, its use was expanded to include the small tables (usually portraits). The older thumbnails (16th century) continued to use the materials of the illustrators, painting with gouache on parchment paper or paperboard. In the 18th century, are normally used thumbnails with transparent watercolor onto ivory. In the 19th century, this type of art began to decline. Famous miniaturist were artists such as Hilliard, Oliver, Cooper, Kosguei (England), Jean and François Cooper, Izampe etc (France) and Fouger (Germany).
