Developing a highly personal style in the spirit of pop art and automatic surrealist writing, Alexis Akrithakis showed a predilection for striking colours and bold shapes, endowing his work with a dreamy quality and childlike wonder. Art historian Maria Kotzamani, who attributes this work to the artist's last period, maintains that Akrithakis, besides being a charismatic image maker, was above all a truly great poet. "Poetry flows through his work like blood through veins."1 1 M. Kotzamani, 'Alexis Akrithakis, a Poet of the Visual World' in A... as for Akrithakis, N.P.
