BIOGRAPHY

He studied painting and graphic design at the National School of Fine Arts (Accademia di Belle Arti) Rome. As a painter he has worked extensively in Visual Arts creating several exhibitions in Rome, Rimini, Paris, Athens, Mykonos and Prague. For some years he focused on realistic delineation of his subjects. Latter, during his stay in Sweden, he continued his development surpassing Naturalism with a personal visual metaphor. During the last two decades of the 20th century, throughout his frequent travels to India and the Far East, he molded a visual vocabulary based upon the inner power of colors, the suggestibility of shapes and archetypal compositions.

As we follow the artistic carrier of Giannis with reference to some of his most mythic creations, we see thematic circles borrowed from Japanese tradition with forms floating in the dark-blue landscapes of the Aegean; the history and mythology of Ancient Greece; and the visual literacy of modern ideas where he is not interested in lifeless descriptions of historical events. He wants to express the subliminal messages of antiquity and capture the spiritual vision existing behind the manifold appearance of things. Within this frame work Giannis creations constitute a direct, esoteric visual language.

The methodically arranged forms, the meticulous organization of space and the harmonious combination between design and color show off the artist's ability to liberate the inner light of the picture. His paintings, characterized by truthfulness and integrity, project the living portrayal of each moment like scenes in a theatrical play. Giannis Spyropoulos re-establishes with his art the invisible link between external form and inner meaning, thus creating a bridge between past, present and future, With this kind of ability he turns out to be a guide to a deeper perception of reality, a participant of a mystical and poetic world.
