Smyrna 1876 - Argyrokastro 1940
Artist with a special performance on issues of war and portrait. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under N. Lytras and Roilos, and continued in Germany and France. His success in the international competition for the portrait of the Emperor of Ethiopia led him to that country where in 1904 he was appointed Court artist. After his return to Greece, he dealt with portraits and landscapes, as well as with still-life paintings and mythological subjects, while in 1919 he returned to war themes. His painting moves within a framework of academic realism and a generally romantic mood. He is distinguished for the precision of his work and carefully studied composition, morphological completeness and chromatic power.
