Special Information for the Artist
Fotis Pechlivanidis started off as a political caricaturist for “Thessaloniki” and “Pontiki” newspapers. He has illustrated children’s books for publishing houses such as “A.S.E.”, “Paratiritis”, “Malliaris Paedia” and “Roes”. He has created comic strips for top-circulation Greek magazines “Para-Pente”, “Babel”, “Prosopa”, and for the political Greek newspaper “Eleftherotypia”, with which cooperated for a two-year period. Furthermore, he has collaborated with magazines “Ena”, “Telerama”, “Kai”, “Epsilon”, “O1” and “KLIK”, as illustrator.
He has worked as the Art Director of magazines “Telerama”, “M2” (of “Mesimvrini” newspaper), “Madame Figaro”, “Playboy”, “KLIK” and “MEN” (of Aris Terzopoulos Publishing) and more. He undertook the design of advertising campaigns on behalf of highly established advertising companies (such as the “twingo-mania” brand for "Global" Company) and moreover, he has worked as a story boarder. His career portfolio includes two solo comic-painting exhibitions (at Thessaloniki and Athens “Astrolavos Gallery”).
Additionally, he has participated in all Comic Festivals organized by “Babel” at Gazi and in numerous group exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and abroad. From fall ’99 until today he teaches sketch and comic at the AKTO School of Fine Arts. Working together with journalist-writer Fotis Georgeles, he has published the comic-album “Luna” (Livanis Editions), which, eight years ago, has been translated and published in the US by “Fantagraphics Books” (as part of the Eros Comics Series). He participated at the “Cow Parade Athens” Festival in 2006 and as recently, he designed and realised a comic story for Coca Cola.
At present he is the Art Director of the “alternative” free press city newspaper ATHENS VOICE. Under his artistic direction the newspaper was awarded with the first design award at the EVGE Artistic Contest Festival. He is also in charge of the artistic design of two more free press magazines published by Athens Voice, “LOOK” and “HOME”.
His cow, entitled “No feelings”, is his participation at the “Cow Parade” in Athens. His work “Kiss”, created in 2008, was in display during the outdoor exhibition “Hearts in Athens”. He also participated at the exhibition “Labyrinth” that took place at Beijing within the Cultural Year of Greece in China festivities context.
His latest solo exhibition “Skin” featuring large scale paintings has been hosted at Astrolavos Dexameni Gallery.
