Student of Volanakis, Oiconomou went to France and studied shipbuilding, which he abondoned to dedicate in painting. In his decision seems to have played an important role his meeting with Juan Gray, the famous cubist painter. He participated in several exhibitions in Paris, while in Greece he first exhibited his works in 1926 at the Cultural Centre Parnassos. As a landscape painter distinguished by the use of impressionist and esoteric kind of expressive language.
