BIOGRAPHY

Ioannis Economou (Kertezi Kalavryta 1860 - Athens 1931) was a Greek painter and woodcut.
He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts since 1874, taught by Nikiforos Lytras and wood engraving by Robert A. In his works, he portrayed mainly landscapes which today are valuable clues, in order to imagine how the areas of Athens were at that time. His painting takes advantage of painting academic realism of N.Lytras.
His works are now in National Gallery, in Evangelos Averof Gallery and in the Municipal Gallery of Larissa-Museum G.I Katsigras.
He worked as a teacher of calligraphy and design in secondary education.
