BIOGRAPHY

Giannis Mitarakis was a Greek painter, born in Alexandria.

Presented reports on various projects in the country and abroad. He was strongly influenced by cubism and particularly by Paul Cézanne. In 1937 he was awarded by the International Exhibition of Paris. Two years later he received the Panhellenic Award.

Born in 1898 and came from a wealthy family in Alexandria. He studied in Paris for a long-time, where in 1921 he successfully exhibited his paintings in "Autumn Salon". He traveled abroad, and then settled in Athens at the age of 31 years.

He was a member in several groups "Level" and "Art 1930", which developed innovative activities in Greece in the interwar years and beyond.

Initially he dealt  with  landscapes, but then became more abstract. Virtually never dealt with abstract art.

Among other things,he presented his work in exhibitions at the Venice Biennale (1934, 1936 and 1940), and in Paris in 1937.

He died in 1963 at age 65.
