Special Information for the Artist
He is one of the most characteristic figures of Modern Greek art and our most important portraitist at the tenth ninth century. In order to avoid Turkey invaders, his family had installed itself in Russia. In the Academy of Good Arts of Petersburg he began at twelve studding in the Academy. There he took also the first reward and afterwards his study he travelled in various countries and worked in cities of Italy, while finally installed in Firenze. There he appears that he was offended by tuberculosis in 1867 and two years later he died in Cairo. Even if he paints also religious subjects, in the portrait he gives most completed formulations.
