BIOGRAPHY

Aggelos Kontis was born in Corfu in 1912. He began his studies at the Art School of Corfu, close to G. Samartzis and A. Vranas and continued to Athens School of Fine Arts (1932-1937), taught by O. Argiros. Kontis’ watercolor works are, mainly landscapes of Corfu, known for their expressionistic writing style, with strongly conflicting colors that define flat color forms the often vague and dreamy space of configurations. The austere design, the contrasts of color and light, the liquidity profiles and synthetic power constituting his works are characterized by their lyricism.

He has shown his work in solo (House of Fine Arts, 1957, Corfu National Gallery, 1987, etc.) and has taken part in group exhibitions (British Council, Panhellenic Corfu 1950. 1952, 1957, 1960, 1963, 1965, 1967 1969, 1971, 1973. Zigos in 1957, 1959, etc.)

His works are in the Old Testament Corfu, in the National Galleries of Corfu, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, in MIET etc. He was a member of EETE.
