BIOGRAPHY

V. Egoumenidis is a painter, decorator and stage designer.

He was born in Istanbul in 1917. He studied at the School of Saint Michel, painting under L. Teschner and decorative of interior space under P. Farina. Between 1944 and 1947 he worked freely in Paris. He also performed with oil, oil and tempera, watercolor gouache, pencil and pastel on canvas and board, works primarily secular in nature (mostly landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still lifes, flowers, fruit, fish) and some with theme of religion.

He was involved with the design, maintenance and restoration, among others, moldings churches (Notre Blachernae, Chapel St. Kyriakou Egrikapou Cemetery, St. Demetrios Tataoulon (Kourtoulous), entrance and courtyard Cemetery St. Tataoulon Eleftheriou, St. Athanasius Tataoulon, Twelve Apostles Ferikioi, St. Demetrios Büyükada, Assomption Modi) and palaces (Dolmabahce and Beylerbeyi). He did and some sculptures. His works can be found in the Patriarchal Fanar House, in private collections in Argentina, Venice, Greece, Spain, Israel, Canada, Paris, the City of New York.

Around 220 projects were burned in the City, in 1975 along with his studio near the Virgin of “Peran”, while about 5 of him and 15 of his teacher L. Teschner, mostly landscapes and portraits were stolen in 1955 from his studio in Trinity of Peran.

Exhibited individually in the City (1950, 1965, 1993/1994), Mykonos (1972) and team in Izmir (1953), in the City (1969, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1994) and Pan-Hellenic (1987). He follows the style of impressionism and Fauvism. His paintings have freehand drawing and a special color sensitivity and poetry.

Decorated the Holy Metropolis of Chalcedon, mansions City (Fenerbache, Goksu) and Tel Aviv hotels (Tokatlian), a bath Galatasaray cinema Alkazar pavillons with patterns and rhythms of the Renaissance, Louis XV and XVI, Empire and the Modern period. Also executed the decorations of the theater Ses (1958), and stained glass in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Tel Aviv. He also dealt with the stage design. His scenographic work, which cooperated with the T. Mouzenidis(1954/1955), consists in creating theatrical stage-designing works, staged in the City (in Kourtoulous in Ferikioi in Zappeion, center, in Kontoskali in Modi, Halki and the Prince).

On 02.06.1995, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in an award of their artistic offering, awarded him the title of Archon painter of the Great Church.
