BIOGRAPHY

He was born in Piraeus in 1940. He studied hagiography and engraving at the School of Fine Arts (1959-1964), with teacher K. Grammatopoulos, and he continued the engraving studies in the Slade School of Fine Art of London, close to A. Gross and B. Dos Santos, with scholarship (1970-1973) and in Tamarind Institute of Lithography of New Mexico, USA, with scholarship of institution Ford (1976). Up to 1974 he deals with engraving, and creates surrealistic compositions of enigmatic character. Since 1974 he focused on oil painting. His painting is distinguished for its realistic precision but also for the exploitation of hallucination that causes the optical illusion, as well as stylistic and paintings of subjects of Rebirth and Baroque. His work is characterized of the absence of human form and the allusive atmosphere. After directing installation, his work acquires symbolic importance.

In 1982 he made a mural of length of 45 m. for the hotel “Athenaeum Intercontinental”. His work can be found in the National Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art of N. York,the  Institute of Contemporary Graphics of Tate Gallery of London, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
