BIOGRAPHY

George Avlichos was a scholar from the Ionian Islands: poet, musician, and above all a painter.

He studied painting at the School of Liberal studies in Naples, Italy, where he might also have received lessons in Law. He continued his studies in Germany before returning later in Kefalonia to devote himself to art.

He transcribed the poetic drama “The destruction of Psara” to the vernacular language, which was first presented in Argostoli in 1888. In painting, he dealt mostly with portraits and genre painting which were sometimes realistic and some others transcendent.

His paintings were presented in the exhibition of the “Parnassos” Association 1885 and the Panhellenic Art Exhibition held in Zappeion, in 1888.
