Special Information for the Artist
Stratis Athinaios was born in Mytilini, in 1953. Starting in 1970, he dealt systematically with painting and later on with engraving. His painting can be classified under two categories: one of landscape painting that draws its inspiration primarily from Mytilini, and the other that is dominated by unorthodox forms of animals and humans. His themes, of intense expressionist mood, are rendered with such emphasis that often become violent and invoke nightmarish visions. Dominant subjects are clusters of people and animals, especially horses.
