Siena, School of
School of painting flourished from the 13th to the 15th century. More conservative than Florence School, was distinguished for its sympathy towards the decorative beauty and the graceful elegance of the Gothic art. Between its main representatives are Duccio, whose work is distinguised by the evident Byzantine influences, his students Simone Martini, Pietro and Ambrosio, Lorenzetti, and Bartolo, Sassetta and Matteo di Giovanni. During the 16th century, the manieristes Beccafumi and Sodoma were working in Siena.
