Brushstroke
The way by which an artist handles his brush. The smoother or thicker brushstrokes are, since the end of the Renaissance, one of the distinctive characteristics of the style of each artist. The academic artists usually seek a finishing panel so perfect that no one can distinguish the individual brushstrokes while other artists emphasize their touches in order to achieve different effects.
