Celtic Art
The art of the Celtic tribes of Western Europe from 450 BC to about 650 AD. Its main characteristic is the use of asymmetrical, curved and abstract ornamentation, often combined with zoomorphic decorations. Divided into two main periods, the first of which (as the early first century AD, known as “La Tène”) contains artworks from the continental Europe, and the second (after 150 AD) is restricted in Britain and Ireland and has incorporated some elements from the contact with the Roman art. Jewelery, metalwork, woodwork and ceramics are the typical products of the Celtic art.
