Six Dynasties
Period of Chinese history (265-581). Its principal characteristics are the division of the political power and the predominance of Buddhism in arts. In sculpture, a Shakyamuni Buddha of 338 that survives nowadays (from plated brass) reveals the effects of the Gandhara’s art. In painting, stand the figures of Cu Cai- Chi (4th century), the theoretical Hsien Ho (in the 6th century) and Chang Sheng-yu (at the Court of Nankin, in the 6th century). Also, it is worth to be mentioned, the temples and the colossal Buddhas with their followers, that are carved onto rocks in Ping- Ling- su and in Mai-chi-san of Kansu (started in the 4th century), in Tounchouangk (where there are significant samples of paintings) of the West Chinese Turkestan (after 366), in Yukang of Shaanxi (5th century) and in Lung-men of Hunan (late 5th-6th century).
